Studying religion isn’t just for people who want to be religious figures like priests. The more you learn about different faith traditions, the more open you become to many points of view. You also gain a deeper understanding of what other people believe, and why. And when you’re trying to figure out what exactly you believe as a budding adult, this is especially helpful. Hey, adulting is hard enough—so why not make it even a little bit easier?
Learning about different religions also teaches you to ask more questions about topics like purpose and meaning, and life and death; you’ll also build a deeper appreciation for your own faith or unique beliefs as you do figure out what they are and start to actively nurture them. Some colleges require you to take a religious studies course, but if not, it’s worth considering a class.
