ASK FOR HELP

You’re facing new situations every day: balancing demanding classes with extracurriculars, being away from home, dealing with professors who push you to excel, living with roommates who can’t seem to clean their dirty dishes—all of which takes a toll on your emotions. It’s hard to know when and how to ask for help, particularly if you feel pressure to handle everything on your own. But asking for help takes strength and shows a brave vulnerability. Reach out to any staff member on campus, like your dorm resident assistant, to figure out what resources and support systems are available to you. Talk to your professor if you’re struggling to keep up with assigned readings or exams; you can also join a study group, get a tutor, or make an appointment at your school’s writing center. If you’re worried about finding a summer gig or job shadowing opportunity, or have no clue how to make a resume, head to the career services office. Asking for help is smart—not a show of weakness; it allows you to get the support you need and deserve.
