WRITE DOWN FIVE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOU

Don’t worry: this isn’t surprise prep for a job interview. Learning how to describe yourself in a few key words is useful not only from a career perspective, but also as a way to reflect on your strengths, skills, and values as you grow over these crazy, awesome years. It builds confidence and offers an easy way to appreciate yourself. It also helps you focus on the type of person you want to become.

Start by writing down several words that you think describe you—anything that comes to mind. Then narrow down the list. You can also ask people who know you well to offer their thoughts. What they have to say may surprise you! Once you have your five words, envision them as your best attributes: the qualities you’re most proud of. Keep the list somewhere you can reread it whenever you need a confidence boost or reminder to stay true to yourself.
