Sometimes emotional resilience is needed to combat the negative images or messages you might encounter—like cultural narratives around not showing emotion, or being a certain size, or succeeding at any cost. One way to create this resilience is to give yourself a daily reminder of the things you want or choose to believe. A positive note on a bedroom or bathroom mirror you use every day can help kick that negative or self-critical voice to the curb; you can write down personal affirmations like “You are worthy,” “You are amazing, inside and out,” or “You’ve got this!” or daily resolutions like “Be kind,” “Help others,” “Remain grateful,” or “Prioritize your health.” Repeat the words in your head a few times whenever you look at the note to commit to those positive mantras or lessons. Reading these empowering words as you look at your reflection will help you focus your thoughts and emotional state on how you want to feel. If you don’t have a mirror, put the note in your class planner, on the back of your phone case, or beside the mouse pad on your laptop.
