INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO SOMEONE NEW

Having an impactful first impression and cultivating good relationships are both important for a successful career in any field. And from living with a roommate to joining an intermural sport, there are tons of opportunities to practice these skills right on campus. You’ll have the chance to introduce yourself to someone new pretty much every day, whether you’re saying hello to a professor you haven’t met before, getting to know the people living on the same floor of your residence hall, or starting a conversation with the person who sits next to you in class. Not sure what to say? Start with a friendly greeting, compliment their awesome shoes, or even joke about something that happened in class. You can even rely on small talk at first, like “It’s crazy how nice the weather has been lately!” or “I heard this class was tough; do you know anything about it?” Then ask them questions to keep the conversation going (after class, of course), like what their weekend plans are, what they are majoring in, or where they are from. The more you practice introducing yourself, the more your confidence around new people will soar!
