Bordering the District and with good public transportation links (Ride-On, Metrobus, Metro, and MARC), Silver Spring is an older suburb that has seen its share of hard times. Following its “Silver Sprung” redevelopment, Silver Spring’s downtown underwent several facelifts until it was finally rewarded with a Whole Foods (as well as a Red Lobster—who says you can’t have it all?). But the neighborhood does boast an ethnically diverse population, and Sligo Creek is pleasant for biking and playing.
