Until 2011, when the Walter Reed Army Medical Center was consolidated with nearby Bethesda Naval Medical Center, the neighborhood catered to military families and veterans using its services. The grounds are the neighborhood’s diamond in the rough, and it remains to be seen how the 100-plus acre site will be redeveloped.
