Keroppi

What You’ll Need: clear base and top coat; white nail polish; brown, green, yellow, light pink, and light blue acrylic paint; fine-tipped brush

Tip: There will be two Keroppi faces in this design, one on the index finger and a winking Keroppi on the ring finger, but you can do them on different nails or add more Keroppi faces on other nails to personalize the design.

1. Apply a clear base coat.

2. Apply two coats of white polish on all nails.

3. On the ring fingernail, using a fine-tipped brush and brown paint, draw two large circles on a slight angle for his eyes.

4. Using the same brown paint, connect the eyes to the nail beds with a curved line on both sides to create the outline of his face.

5. On a palette, mix green and yellow paint to make a lime green for Keroppi’s face. Using a fine tipped brush, color in the face (in the white space on the bottom part of the nail bed) everywhere except the eyes. Using a fine-tipped brush and brown paint, draw a V-shaped mouth. Then place a brown dot in the center of the left eye and a small sideways V on the right eye to create a wink.

6. Use light pink paint to draw cheek circles on either side of the mouth.

7. On the index finger, repeat Steps 3 through 6, but on this finger Keroppi will have both eyes open, so do not paint a V for the wink.

8. On either side of the eyes, add three connected V-shaped “toes” facing up for each frog foot. Using the lime green paint you mixed in Step 5, color in the feet.

9. On the pinky nail, draw Teru Teru, Keroppi’s ghost friend. Using a fine-tipped brush and brown paint, draw a circle just to the right of the center of the nail. Create the skirt of the ghost by painting a jagged pattern that connects to the face.

10. Add two round dots for eyes and a half circle for the mouth. Draw two vertical lines in the skirt to simulate wrinkles.

11. Next create a blue stripe pattern on each nail: Using a fine-tipped brush and light blue paint, draw stripes to create a blue and white stripe pattern, avoiding the characters. You should have three or four blue stripes per finger.

12. Apply a clear top coat to all nails.
