1. Apply a clear base coat.
2. Apply two coats of white polish on all nails (alternating the color if you choose).
3. Using a fine-tipped brush and black paint, add three or four fine vertical lines down the nail.
4. Then add horizontal lines to make boxes.
5. Fill in every other square with black paint to create a black-and-white checkered pattern. Apply a clear top coat to all nails.
