THINGS TO DO

Sleep in one! On Isle au Haut, you can sleep in the home of the former keeper at Robinson Point Light. The Keeper’s House is now a four-bedroom bed-and-breakfast.

Visit the Lighthouse Museum in Rockland. The museum’s purpose is is to educate the public about the history of lighthouses and to preserve the stories and artifacts of their lifesaving mission. It houses the largest collection of lighthouse paraphernalia in the country, including sparkling Fresnel lenses. While in Rockland, also take a walk on the nearly mile-long breakwater out to Rockland Harbor Breakwater Light.

Tour lighthouses by boat. From Down East to southern Maine, boat operators offer lighthouse tours, photo ops, and sunset cruises, sometimes incorporating whale-watching or puffin-watching in the trip.

Get a passport. The United States Lighthouse Society issues passports, available in some Maine locations, for lighthouse enthusiasts who want to support the lighthouse preservation effort. Passport Club members can collect stamps at more than 450 locations around the country and receive discounts on future passports. Society members may also receive discounts on select lighthouse cruises.
