All the tools and materials for this project—except the 1-1/2-in. bamboo—are available at home centers.

■ Four 8-ft. 1x6s

■ One 8-ft. 1x4 (treated)

■ 16 lin. ft. of 1-1/2-in.-diameter bamboo

■ 200 lin. ft. of 3/4-in.-diameter bamboo

■ 2 tubes of construction adhesive

■ 150 wire ties

■ Exterior wood glue, 2-in. masking tape, 3-in. pan-head screws, construction screws (1-1/4, 1-5/8 and 2-1/4 in.), exterior wood filler, furniture glides and a wire twister tool.

We finished our planter with semitransparent exterior stain.
