Cut out the ends using a jigsaw. Use a fine-tooth blade and follow the paper pattern attached to each end board with tape or glue.

Glue the joints so your deck planter will last for years. Before attaching the bottom to the ends, drill pilot holes first so that you don’t split the wood when nailing.

Attach railing sides to the bottom. The beveled edge allows the sides to fit snugly against the curved bottom of each end.

Nail side slats starting from the top of the box, working your way toward the bottom. Remember, pilot holes are a must when nailing close to the ends of these pieces.

Add rail spacers to the inside of each railing side. These clever additions allow this box to sit snugly atop a 2x6 or 2x4 railing.
