1
Make full-size templates for the shaped pieces. Transfer the intersecting points from our grid drawings to your full-size grids, then connect the points.
2
Cut out the shaped pieces using a jigsaw. Use a fine-tooth blade and carefully follow the drawn lines to reduce the amount of sanding needed to smooth the sawn edges.
3
Drill the dowel holes in the ends of the back slats. Clamping the slats side by side like this gives the dowel-drilling jig more surface area to clamp onto.
4
Rout the edges of all the pieces (except the end cuts). Clamp the pieces to your work table, or use a router pad to hold the pieces as you rout them.
5
Glue, dowel and clamp the side pieces together. Be careful not to apply too much glue and create a mess.
6
Use a flush-trimming saw or sharp chisel to trim off the heads of the screw cover plugs. Finish-sand them with a sanding block, then an orbital sander.
7
Using the partially finished chair as a convenient support, file the angled radiused corner of the arm notch so it fits around the back leg.
8
Align and clamp the arms to the front legs. Insert the screws that go into the back legs, remove the clamps and then screw the arms to the front legs.
