Family Muglidae

BOXLIP MULLET

Oedalechilus labeo

Boxlip Mullet are a uniform silvery grey in colour with thin, brownish lines along the flanks and grow to around 25cm (10in). A schooling species, they are seen in most habitats. Ecology: They have large, fleshy lips with which they ‘hoover’ the fine silt layers from rock surface and algae, but more commonly they are seen feeding at the surface on plankton debris and algae scum.
