Spicara maena

A distinctive small fish growing to 25cm (10in). It has quite a high body and is coloured silver with a turquoise top to the flanks and has a distinctive dark blotch midway down its lateral line. Ecology: It can occur in large schools around coastal rocky habitats, but at night it rests on the seabed where it makes an easy subject for photography.
