Apple Crisp

6 large Granny Smith apples

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 cup water

1 cup oats

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

2 1/2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Whipped cream for serving

Core and cut the apples into slices. Mix the apple slices with the lemon juice in a large bowl. In a heavy saucepan bring the water to a boil and add the apples and cook for 20 minutes. Remove from the heat. Drain the apples and place in a large bowl. Let cool for about 15 minutes. Combine the oats, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon in a bowl and mix well. Set aside.

Preheat the oven to 350ยบ. In a coated 13x9-inch pan add the apples and sprinkle the top with the oats mixture. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Serve with whipped cream.

Makes 4 to 6 servings.
