Dos Angeles is one of those exceptional lodges that offer a total experience that other lodges just can’t quite seem to attain. The reason is simply that owners Jack and Lynn Fields have assembled one of the most qualified and experienced staffs a lodge could hope to have.
Take, for instance, the executive chef, Carlos Gomez, who has been an executive chef for more than twenty years. His clientele includes the most powerful and the most demanding in the world. Among others, he has served the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Senate Majority Leader, major committee chairmen of the House and Senate, ambassadors from around the world, the Prince of Lichtenstein, all of the former directors of the CIA, the former director of the Mossad, the CEOs of major American companies, and sports celebrities. Or consider the quail biologist whose sole duty is to maintain the quality of the quail hunting on Dos Angeles’s 12,400 acres. Dale Rollins is the leading quail biologist in Texas and, given the list of his degrees, achievements, awards, and recognition for work in the field, easily one of the leading quail biologists in the world. His expertise keeps Dos Angeles as one of the great quail destinations in the world.
Pinto Creek flows three and a half miles through the property, and although Dos Angeles Ranch is only twelve miles from the Mexican border, this stream is pure Texas hill country water, flowing over limestone and creating excellent fishing opportunities in the deep holes and pools that rock falls have created over the years. It was just below the ranch that Lonesome Dove was filmed and the ranch reflects that warm southwestern landscape dotted with cool river bottom glades. Constance Whiston is the fishing guide and habitat advisor for the ranch and is one of the most respected anglers in North America. She is an accomplished guide, writer, instructor, and lecturer.
This extraordinary team that Jack and Lynn Fields have assembled provide their guests with an unequaled total experience. From the minute guests enter the Mexican-inspired ranch, they are treated to the finest hospitality that south Texas can offer. The food is world-class, the accommodations are cool and inviting, the quail hunting is the best that a hunter could ask for, the fishing is excellent, the dogs are beautifully trained, and the countryside is wonderfully romantic in the Lonesome Dove tradition. No expense has been spared to bring together the finest staff a hunting lodge could hope to assemble. The experience reflects it.
