JESSIE’S MEATLOAF

Topping

1/4 cup ketchup

3 tablespoons brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon dry mustard

Meatloaf

2 eggs

1/2 cup chopped onion

2 slices bread, torn into small pieces

1/2 8-ounce can tomato sauce

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

2 pounds ground beef

For the topping, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, nutmeg, and dry mustard in a bowl. Set aside.

For the meatloaf, preheat the oven to 350°. Com­bine the eggs, onion, bread, tomato sauce, salt, and pepper in a large bowl and mix well. Add the ground beef and combine. Shape into a loaf. Spread the topping over the meatloaf. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Let sit for 15 minutes before serving.

Makes 4 to 6 servings.
