“Hold still, you little bitch!”
Utrios had been throwing flames at Reyna left and right.
“Uh, yeah, like that’s going to happen!” Reyna rolled her eyes as she did a backflip to avoid the demon’s latest attack. Thank God, that I was obsessed with SkyFly in this damned realm or I wouldn’t even be able to do moves like this, she thought silently.
...SkyFly!
“Avavarious!” Reyna recited as her board shot out of her backpack and slid underneath her feet.
“What do you think that will accomplish?” Utrios snarled.
Reyna smirked. “Evening the playing field!” Reyna flew around the blazing apartment as Utrios continued to try, and fail, to hit her with his fire.
“You really suck at this, y’know?” Reyna laughed. “What kind of demon can’t even hit someone with a fireball?”
“Insulant girl! I am the Guardian of —!”
“Awful cliches?”
“Hell!”
“Sure you are!”
Reyna was only a few inches from the one window that wasn’t completely overridden in flames. She was going to make it...
“...If only your mother would have put up such a fight.”
Reyna spun around instantly.
“What did you say?”
“Your mother,” Utrios smirked. “She didn’t get the chance to make the trip across realms. She’s still in Mercynville. Don’t worry, no demon has touched her since you left. But she is in, what Mortals call, a coma. She may never wake up, and you... her favorite spawn, couldn’t even recognize that she wasn’t really here. What would she think of you now?”
“Shut up!” Reyna shouted as she flew at him like a rocket. Utrios cackled as he finally hit her point-blank in the stomach with a fireball. She landed on the floor with a loud crash.
“DAMN’T!” Reyna shouted in agony. She could feel her skin melting.
“Not so confident now, are we?” Utrios smirked down at her. “Did you really think you were going to beat me? That you were better than me?”
“Oh, she definitely did.”
Utrios turned around just in time to get a lit wand shoved through his right eye as a large, muscular teenage boy tackled him to the floor.
“And, y’know what? She was right!”
“Armie?” Reyna struggled to sit up, clutching her sizzling stomach as she did.
“Hey,” he replied as got off the demon and gave her a hand. “Is it too much to hope this makes up for... earlier?”
“You’re... on your way,” Reyna gave him a small smile as she sighed. “We... need to get...”
“ARRRHHH!” Armie screamed as he fell to his knees.
“ARMIE!” Reyna shouted as Utrios removed the wand from his eye socket, tossing it aside. The demon blasted Armie’s back with more of his deranged hellfire.
Reyna glared at the bastard with a fury like no other swelling inside her body, letting out a shriek! Sound waves issued from her mouth as the demon’s body began to shred apart. Reyna stood up, grabbed Armie’s wand, and walked closer to Utrios. It was like every ounce of pain had left her body. For the first time in her life — she felt strong — she was powerful!
Utrios collapsed inside a small corner, with pure fear showing in every remaining feature of his disgusting face. Reyna, still wielding her sonic shriek, plunged the wand deep inside his chest. The Guardian of Hell died, his body reduced to ash by the surge of divine energy created by Reyna’s magic.
Reyna closed her mouth, and the sonic shriek ended. She felt the apartment complex shake beneath her. Reyna turned and ran to Armie. She slung one of his massive arms over her shoulder to help support him. “Avavarious!” She called out as her SkyFly board zoomed back under her feet. She and Armie shot out of the apartment window. It felt good to feel the cool night breeze on her face. They landed on the towering rooftop of a nearby skyscraper. She glanced back at the apartment complex, which had burned to rubble.
“What did you do?”
Reyna raised Armie’s wand by instinct, only to see the Watkins brothers standing before her.
“Seriously?” She sighed. “Now, you show up!”
