Tabgha, Galilee, Israel
So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
—Bible, John 21:15
There have been several iterations of churches upon the holy site that commemorates the place where the resurrected Jesus gave Peter charge of his flock of followers. When Peter came ashore from fishing with other disciples, his nets were full, thanks to Jesus telling him to fish on the right side of the boat. Three times Jesus asked Peter whether he loved him, and Peter replied yes (in contrast to his previous three denials of Jesus, Luke 22:54–62).
If you have doubted your love for God or the Divine’s love for you, reaffirm your love as Peter did, redeeming himself. Visit the Franciscan Church of the Primacy of Peter in Tabgha. To get to the site, take a taxi or bus from Tiberius. The church opens daily 8:00 a.m. to 12 p.m., and then from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Entrance is free.
Pray for Divine love as sustenance to feed your soul.
The plain stone church is located at the edge of the northwestern corner of the Sea of Galilee and a part of its altar is a piece of the stone table (Mensa Christi) where Christ laid out the bread when appearing to his disciples after the Resurrection.
