Mount Abu, Rajasthan, India
God, our Creator, has stored within our minds and personalities, great potential strength and ability. Prayer helps us tap and develop these powers.
—Abdul Kalam (1931–2015), eleventh president of India
The Dilwara Temples are a cluster of five white-marble, intricately carved temples sacred to the Jains, a religious sect in India whose principles embrace nonviolence, forgiveness, and self-effort as the path to self-realization and enlightenment. These astonishing temples sit in a complex among mango trees and wooded hills and are unique because each temple is dedicated to a different Jain saint and named for the village to which it belongs.
Whether you need to forgive yourself or another or accept forgiveness, visit the Dilwara complex. If you are a Jain, you are welcome to bathe and perform the ritual puja; otherwise, enjoy a guided tour. Mount Abu is located 4,000 feet above sea level and easily reached by bus, taxi, or train (the nearest station at Abu Road links the Golden Triangle of cities: Delhi-Jaipur-Agra).
Soak up the sacred ambiance of the beautiful temples within the Dilwara complex while reflecting on forgiveness, even self-forgiveness, because it injures your spirit to hold onto psychological wounds, anger, and resentment.
The temples are located about 1 mile from Mount Abu and are a sacred pilgrimage site for Jains.
