Doubt makes the mountain which faith can move.

—Proverb

Sacred to numerous Native American tribes, more than one hundred New Age sects, the Rosicrucian Order, and a Buddhist monastery, this holy mountain at the southern end of the Cascades straddles the California-Oregon border and has been continually inhabited for nine thousand years. Today, more than a New Age mecca, it might be more appropriately described as a holy New Age epicenter following the Harmonic Convergence of 1987 when more than five thousand spiritual people from around the world gathered to pray and meditate on world peace.

If you want to transform yourself or the world, visit Mount Shasta to jump-start the process. Take Highway 5 to the city of Mount Shasta and pick up Everitt Memorial Highway to Bunny Flat Trailhead. There, at 6,860 feet, enter onto trails to the summit, or enjoy the verdant meadows (in summer) and the shimmering waterfalls.

To enter the wilderness areas, you will need a permit; contact the Mount Shasta Ranger Station at (530) 926-4511 for information on getting a permit.
