Cornwall, England

I am sailing into the wind and the dark. I’m doing my best to keep my boat steady and my sails full.

Saint Ives Parish Church, in the picturesque seaside town of Saint Ives, Cornwall, on the southwest English coast, is dedicated to three saints: Ia (who, legend has it, crossed the Irish Sea on a cabbage leaf), Andrew (patron of fishermen), and Peter (the Rock). The medieval church of Cornish granite has an 80-foot tower that stands as a spiritual beacon to seamen and parishioners alike, guiding them safely and steadily to the place where heaven, Earth, and the sea meet.

To feel the energy that continuous worship for more than six hundred years has created, visit this sacred sanctuary. The church is located on Saint Andrews Street near the intersection of Highways B3306 and A3074.

A Deeper Look

The church was consecrated in 1434. The region of Cornwall is recognized by the Cornish people as one of the Celtic nations, with a cultural identity distinct and different from the rest of England.
