Delhi, India
Still your mind in me, still yourself in me, and without a doubt you shall be united with me, Lord of Love, dwelling in your heart.
—Bhagavad Gita
The magnificent Akshardham Temple on the banks of the Yamuna River incorporates pink stone symbolizing bhakti (eternal love) with pure white marble symbolizing peace. Built in 2005, the world’s largest Hindu temple is completely covered with ornate carvings and filled to the hilt with artwork. With its fantastic dioramas, IMAX theater, indoor boat ride, numerous exhibits, lighted musical fountain, twenty thousand sculptures of statues and deities, and 60 acres of lawns and gardens, Swaminarayan Akshardham might best be described as a spiritual amusement park.
Visit this temple to seek knowledge about the great spiritual traditions of India, including prema (elevated love) and bhakti yoga (the path of love). Allow roughly four hours to see everything. Indira Gandhi International is the nearest airport; from there, taxis, metro trains, city buses, and auto rickshaws (bargain fare) make travel to the temple easy. No cameras, bags, backpacks, food, or water are allowed inside.
Behold love for the Divine as you experience the temple and its offerings. Then during meditation, feel the depth and bliss of love in union with the Divine.
Thousands of volunteers and seven thousand sculptors worked to complete the temple in five years. With its sublime messages of spiritual love and national pride, Akshardham is a popular tourist attraction for Indians as well as spiritual seekers.
