Making History without an Album

In June 2010, Nicki Minaj's single, “Your Love,” hit No. 1 on Billboard's Rap chart. She was the first woman to hit the top since Lil’ Kim's collaboration with 50 Cent, “Magic Stick,” in 2003. Ironically enough, the track as never meant for fans’ ears.

"I didn't like the song and I didn't put it out," she later said. "Someone stole it out of the studio and put it on the Internet, and I cried because I was mortified. I was humiliated and remember telling Drake, 'This is going to ruin my career.'"

Four months later, just one month before “Pink Friday” hit the shelves, Nicki Minaj rose to new heights with a whopping seven singles on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, breaking the record. Along with “Your Love,” the chart featured collaborations with Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Trey Songz, Usher, Sean Kingston and Jay Sean. It's no wonder the artist boasted, “$50k a verse; no album out.”

That same year, she swept the BET awards, walking away with no fewer than five awards, including Rookie of the Year, Best New Artist, and the People's Champ Award.
