Wisteria

[WISTERIA]

In Asia, wisteria is an emblem of gentleness and obedience. Similarly, for the Victorians, it said, “I cling to thee.”

The languid and aromatic wisteria, topping the garden wall, promises a life of luxury and ease. Wisteria bears a multitude of delicately hued flowers, pale purple, light blue, mauve, and white. In Japan, wisteria was the flower of two seasons, as it bloomed in April and marked the transition between spring and summer.

Far at sea, sailors smelled wisteria before they saw the island on which it grew.
