Slow-cooked Oven Barbecued Brisket
As good as this is right out of the oven, it is just as good two or three days later. This is a perfect Bless Your Heart dish.
¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
1 ½ cups ketchup
½ teaspoon Tabasco sauce
½ cup sugar
1 teaspoon celery salt
1 (4-pound) beef brisket, trimmed
1 tablespoon salt
2 teaspoons black pepper
12 buns
Preheat the oven to 275 degrees. Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking dish and set aside. In a small saucepan combine the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Tabasco sauce, sugar, and celery salt. Place over low heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves. Pour ½ of the sauce into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the beef with the salt and pepper and place on top of the sauce in the baking dish. Top the beef with the remaining sauce. Cover and roast for 5 hours, or until very tender. When ready to serve, cut diagonally across the grain into thin slices.
To Serve: Serve on buns with sauce from the pan.
Makes 12 servings.
