About the Author
William Burg was born in Skokie, Illinois, and grew up in Sacramento’s suburbs, attending Humboldt State University, where he planned to become a history teacher. He moved to Sacramento in 1993 and worked in the mental health field, as a case manager at a transitional home in Southside Park, a county mental health clinic in Alkali Flat and a drop-in center for residents of Sacramento’s downtown SRO hotels. His interest in history was rekindled after volunteering at the California State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento, and he entered Sacramento State University’s Public History program, earning his MA in 2010. He has written five books about Sacramento history.
