HISTORICAL NOTE

Tizzie’ grew out of my maternal grandmother’s tales and my indignation at the way women were treated in 1887. Information came from too many sources to list. I used pictures, museum visits, old photographs, letters and diaries, songs, poems and novels of the time, and a lot of ordinary people had nuggets and gems of information. Research fell into two parts. There was practical research with butter and cheese making, cooking old Yorkshire recipes, and knitting with a knitting stick.

Then there were books and experts. There were so many sources but these books and articles were of particular interest. Christine Hallas became the name I sought for so much information about Wensleydale. Her articles supplied the many little details which make historical novels ‘real’.
