The Collaboration With Other Music Icons

As a result of the Heartbreakers growing success, there were other iconic artists that were hoping to collaborate and work with the front man of the band, Tom Petty. Petty worked with Del Shannon in creating a come back album for his work. He helped produce the entire album and committed to working with him closely to ensure a successful piece of art. The album was indeed a fan favorite and turned out to be great. Aside from aiding in the production of Del Shannon’s come back album, they also became great friends. Many artists respected Petty’s music, which made for more on an inclination to spark a friendship. Aside from the music, other musicians respected his persistence among standing for artistic freedom and control of his music.

As a result of their recent come up, Stevie Nicks had wanted to join the Heartbreakers. She would ask Petty every few months and each time he would turn her down because the Heartbreakers didn’t have girls. He also knew she was at the peak of her career and wanted her to be able to enjoy that.

So alternatively, Nicks asked Petty to write a song for her. Petty did write and create a song for her, but ended up liking it better for himself and stole it. Being understanding, Nicks still asked Petty to writer her another song that would be for herself. After a few trial and errors with songs he had previously begun to write, he chose one for her. While recording Nicks, Petty and the producer had Petty do a part of it to show Nicks how he thought it should sound. In turn, Petty ended up being on the track with her as well. Everyone including his producer agreed that it sounded better as a duet. The song was a hit and fans of both Nicks and Petty praised their ability to collaborate and create memorable music together. Aside from the great song they produced together, they grew close as good friends. They still remain close to this day and Nicks even credits Petty for her solo career taking off.
