I’ve encountered many strange oddities over the course of my decade-long journey exploring abandoned shopping malls, but the most bizarre was three malls that were still operating with barely any stores inside. In fact, one had only one store left; ironically, it was an arcade. What I found interesting was that all three malls were owned by the same company and spread over three states—Cincinnati Mills Mall in Ohio, Pittsburgh Mills Mall in Pennsylvania, and St. Louis Mills Mall in Missouri. It’s hard to make sense of it, and I’ve grown wary of the corporation that owns these three shopping malls. I’m left asking the inevitable question—why?
