#73 GIVE IT TO THEM STRAIGHT

Just to be clear, your keto decisions don’t require any explanation. You’re allowed to do what you want and eat what you want without feeling the need to justify your choices to others. That being said, some people misunderstand keto and the benefits behind it. They may have read a headline that says keto is a fad diet or that keto is bad for you and that might be the extent of their understanding on the subject.

In those cases, people who care about you may try to “warn” you about keto by sharing this information with you. Instead of getting defensive or frustrated, try calmly explaining how keto works and why it’s important to you. Weight loss may be your ultimate goal, but give some reasons beyond that. You can explain the science behind the keto diet, but try to elaborate on the personal benefits you’re experiencing too. Has keto given you more energy? Do you have fewer aches and pains? Is your digestion better? You don’t have to go into too many personal, intimate details, but try to get the point across that this isn’t just about weight loss or another diet trend. This is a lifestyle change that has some pretty profound health benefits.

It’s not your job to convince others that they should do it too or that they’re not entitled to their personal opinions, but sometimes, when you share your personal experience, it helps open their eyes. That doesn’t mean that they’re going to agree with you or start on their own keto journey, but they may become less oppositional, and that can make your life a lot easier.
