#76 SET AN EXPECTATION

Sometimes, when you’re on a specific diet, people may get nervous around you. That doesn’t mean that you make them nervous, but if they care about you, they want to make sure that they’re providing foods or drinks that you can eat. This can put unnecessary stress on you and them. It can be especially hard for people who want to be supportive by cooking you meals you can enjoy or providing appetizers that fit within your goals, but don’t really understand all the ins and outs of keto.

You can get ahead of this stress and any potential awkwardness by letting your friends, family, and even acquaintances know right off the bat that you don’t expect any special treatment. Explain that you are more than willing to bring food and drinks along with you to parties and social events so that the host doesn’t have to prepare special recipes for you. Make it clear that while you would certainly like them to respect your decision and health goals, they don’t have to cater to it. You may be surprised at how much a quick conversation like this can take the stress off you and your social circle.
