Barbara Rachel

"Though I have always been touched by the suffering of others, I was not able to be really helpful until I matured into the realization that there is really no difference between myself and people labeled as mentally ill. Thirty years ago I graduated from social work school and worked in community mental health and then found the therapy which has guided me ever since. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a skills-based treatment that is rooted in mindfulness and Buddhist thought. It has helped me and the traumatized people I work with find the path to reduce suffering and find a life worth living. I live by the four rules of life: show up, pay attention, tell the truth, and don’t be attached to the results. Namaste."

Kari Tauring

Kari Tauring is a Norse cultural educator, folk musician, spiritual leader, and healer living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is a völva, staff-carrying woman, and the originator of the Völva Stav mind/body/spirit philosophy and practice. Growing up in a Norwegian-American ethnic enclave, Tauring began digging below the surface of her immigrant culture in 1988 when a linguistics professor introduced her to the runes. Her life’s passion is to help other Americans with European roots excavate, mend, and reconnect to their own cultures of origin and the stories carried in the body through generations. Tauring maintains that reconnecting to root culture identity assists in moving us away from racialized identity. Family-of-origin stories point to the sources of trauma we carry. Root culture gives us the language, songs, dances, mythic allegories, metaphysics, and cosmologies to assist in our deep root healing. Tauring is the author of the book and iPhone app, The Runes: A Deeper Journey, several Nordic root musical recordings, a Nordic dance curriculum, and a series of online workshops for Nordic root healing, and maintains the website karitauring.com.
