Ansley looked toward the bathroom door. What is taking him so long?
He was usually in and out.
As if on cue, she heard the water stop and Davis reemerged.
“What were you doing in there? Trying to make the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest shower?”
His lips twisted. “I missed you too.”
She took him by the hand and guided him away from the bathroom door. “Yeah, yeah. Now move it. I need to get in there.”
Davis pulled her into his arms. “I don’t know what I’d do if I ever lost you.”
Ansley tilted her head, showing her confusion. “What made you say that? Is everything okay?”
“Everything is fine. I just felt the need to tell you that,” Davis said before kissing her on the cheek. She studied him from behind as he padded over to the Cherrywood dresser where he had a designated drawer to grab a pair of boxers.
She shrugged and turned to walk into the bathroom. As she walked over to turn on the water, she heard a beep.
On the counter, was Davis’s cellphone. Ansley was surprised to see that his screen was not secure. He must have just used it before coming out.
Ansley was two-seconds from snooping, but she didn’t allow herself to invade his privacy. Since the Simeon incident, he had been very forthcoming and she had no reason to think he was keeping secrets again.
No. She wouldn’t be that woman; theirs was a trusting relationship. Ansley was proud of her decision.
He can be trusted.
She had to believe this.
