The doctor’s office called Ansley on the following Wednesday. Her results came back negative.
She did a praise dance, which consisted of the running man and cabbage patch, right there in the middle of her living room. Followed by uncontrolled laughter and sporadic tears.
When she gathered herself, Ansley got on her computer and logged onto the Don’t Date Him Girl site and created an account. She searched and found the entry about Davis and decided to leave her thoughts on this post. Ever since she read this, her mind had been filled with dread thinking she might have a disease. While Ansley knew she probably shouldn’t bother, she felt compelled to let it be known. She wrote:
Normally I wouldn’t subscribe to participating in something like this, but I thought it was only right to make a comment about this entry. While I don’t condone anything that Davis or well Monty has done, I will say that the part about the STD is not true. I went, had my blood tested, and my results came back negative. Please don’t think I’m defending him at all because I’m not, but the truth is the truth and a lie is a lie. I think he lied to both of us enough, no need to stoop to his level.
No sooner than Ansley hit enter, she wanted to go back and remove the comment. A part of her felt that the note sounded like it was in defense of Davis, but she did not like the idea of worrying about a non-existent STD. Between him stealing from her and now stressing over her status, she hadn’t had the best sleep this month. What am I doing? This is crazy.
Just as she went to delete her comment, she saw that there was a response to the post. She clicked on the comment box and was surprised that it came from Bree.
I don’t know what your situation was or who you spoke to, but I have no reason to lie. I did contract a STD from him and if you didn’t—good for you. However, let me be clear, you don’t know my story, so please don’t judge me. Everything that I’ve written about him is true, you just haven’t read the last chapter in your story. Every story has a drama twist, hopefully you’ll be prepared if that part of his plot strikes you unexpectedly.
As she finished reading the message her phone rang. She deleted her entry and picked up her phone. The caller ID was unknown, but she was betting that it was Bree. She answered, “This is Ansley.”
“So I take it that you’re the woman who responded to my post on Don’t Date Him Girl,” she said, “Congrats to your negative status, but I must say it’s very presumptuous of you to think that I would make up a thing like that. Why on earth would anyone want to say this is their truth?” she asked.
“You’re absolutely right,” Ansley responded, “I shouldn’t have assumed anything.”
“Now that you know my story, perhaps we could help one another. I’ve been trying to take Monty to court for a while now, but I couldn’t locate him. I’m trying to have him served in Atlanta, but haven’t had any luck yet. Have you spoken to him since we last talked?”
“I haven’t and I would prefer to leave it that way. I really don’t want to get involved.”
“If you don’t assist with bringing him down, he’ll continue to prey on unsuspecting women. I guess he must really care for you since you didn’t get scammed, but he’s no saint and you might be the key to getting him to get his stuff together.”
Ansley felt a twinge of guilt about not confessing about recent events in her life with the theft, but it was none of Bree’s business.
“Aren’t you even curious how I got your number?” Bree asked, breaking into Ansley’s thoughts.
She hadn’t questioned how Bree was able to contact her. Until now, the thought never crossed her mind. “How did you get my number?”
Bree chuckled. “I have a contact that hooked Davis up with his phone service. Little did I know that he was trying to flirt with her behind my back and tried to run a con on her as well. So she was more than willing to help me do some research. I have his phone records, and I know who he’s been in touch with and who has been in touch with him. Your number was the most frequent for incoming and outgoing calls. He thought he was just going to disappear and not have to pay for his actions, but he will see me in court whether it is in Illinois or Georgia,” she uttered. Her tone brooked no argument.
Ansley was speechless.
After a moment had passed and Bree never said anything else, Ansley said, “This is all so much to take and I’m feeling overwhelmed. I’m sorry, Bree but I want to move on. Maybe it’s time you do the same.”
Bree laughed. “He got to you, didn’t he? He’s always been a charmer.”
“I’m not defending him. Trust me, he wasn’t a prince to me either.” Ansley threw up her hands. “I’m just over the stress. I have other things to focus on.”
“Wait a minute—did he con you, too?” Bree scoffed. “Unbelievable. And, you don’t want to go after him… wow.”
Ansley didn’t try to argue with her. Her mother always got on to her for not sticking up for herself more. She could be very passive at times. Ansley preferred to just cut people out of her life if they disrespected the relationship at this level that Davis had. She didn’t think it was necessary to seek vengeance on him, she knew he would get his without her help.
“If you don’t tame that devil now, he’ll take you for all you’re worth. Believe that. You take care.”
Ansley had not endured all that Bree had, but she knew that it was time she opened her eyes and made some decisions. Davis could not continue to use women and get away with it. His day of reckoning would soon come.
