Simeon watched as Davis’s car pulled away from the curb. “Ansley, go inside and forget about that jerk.”
“Aren’t you coming?”
“I forgot something in the car.”
“Okay I’ll let them know to wait before they bless the food.”
Simeon unlocked her car and got inside.
She sat, staring blankly at Ansley’s parent’s house, before releasing a high pitch scream. Once again, Davis had played her. She had no doubt that the money he used to repay Ansley was pulled from the cash she had given him.
Pulling out her phone, she dialed his number.
He answered on the first ring, but didn’t allow Simeon a chance to get out a word. “Don’t call me whining. It’s done. You gave that money to me to use, and before you even think about saying something, remember I like to talk, too.”
Simeon huffed. “You know what tell her whatever you want, as a matter of fact I’ll tell her myself. I’m not afraid of what will happen. I’d rather be exposed than be your puppet.”
She disconnected the call.
Simeon let out a harsh breath, and then wiped away the tears forming in the corner of her eyes. Pulling down her interior car mirror, she checked her make-up and pushed a stray hair behind her ear.
Looking at her reflection, she felt sad. She turned her head and looked toward the Wright’s house. Through the window she could see the family laughing and enjoying each other. Why can’t I have that life?
She reached into her purse for her medication. Upon pulling out the bottle, she realized it had been a while since she refilled her prescription. She was so tired of hurting, she wanted to dull the pain.
Tossing the bottle back in her purse, she took one last look at the house and backed out of the driveway.
