Today was the day.
Ansley was going to have her day in court with Davis. She planned to fight and Lord willing win. After speaking with an attorney, she was advised that she did have a case and they recommended she file a personal injury tort claim against Davis. Ansley wasn’t as concerned about being compensated, she knew he didn’t have any money anyway. Her concern was to teach him a lesson and hold him accountable for his actions. She was too lenient with him, that was her fault, but now she wanted to take action.
All of her friends came today to support her. She smoothed out her navy pant suit as she walked toward the door. After talking with Bree, she even managed to get her to come to testify against Davis.
“Are you ready for this?” Lanae inquired.
Ansley pushed her shoulders back and turned to Lanae. “I’m pumped to be honest with you. This makes me feel in control of the situation. When I first got that call, I felt weak and hopeless but this lets me take back some power. Whether I win or lose, this moment is—major for me and who I’ve become as woman.”
“Go head then. That’s what I’m talking about. God’s got you on this one honey. He takes care of his kids.”
“Amen to that,” Ryan said. “Okay, baby girl, let’s go ahead and get inside. Besides, Davis keeps eyeing you and I’m two-seconds from introducing myself.”
She patted him on the back. “Stand down Kevin Costner, I don’t need a body guard today. I don’t want anything to keep him from hearing the judge fine his behind.”
Ansley turned to say something to Simeon, but she was no longer standing with them. Before Ansley could ask if anyone saw where she went, she heard her friend’s voice.
“Drugs? Gunrunning? STDs? How do you sleep at night? Nothing and no one matters to you—you don’t care about anyone but yourself. You date women, sleep with them, steal from them, and then they are disposable to you. You’re a loser. You deserve whatever punishment you have coming to you.”
“That’s enough. Please exit to the right, ma’am,” one of the deputies interjected.
Davis looked at his attorney and burst into laughter. “Don’t you think you’re just a little jealous, Simeon? You practically threw yourself at me, but I didn’t want you. You even tried to seduce me after your girl and I were dating. You think men just fall over themselves for you, but you’re not as attractive as you might think. You’re nothing special. Your father doesn’t even like you. You’re pathetic.”
“What did you just say?” Simeon hissed. “Look at me and tell me that to my face.”
“Come on Davis, that’s enough,” his attorney, Grant Marshall stated, trying to push Davis toward the courtroom.
Davis shook his head in disgust. “Look at you— just pitiful. I’ve met crack heads with more pride than you. Go take your meds and get out my face? You unstable heifer.”
With a quickness, Simeon grabbed the ink pen from Grant’s front coat pocket, and plunged it into the side of Davis’s neck, as she pushed him down to the floor, she slapped his face over and over.
Grant reacted by grabbing Simeon from behind.
The deputies followed, struggling to restrain her.
Simeon looked up to see Ansley, Lanae, and Ryan looking at her in complete shock. “What’s happening…get off of me. What is your problem? What happened?”
“Ma’am, you’re under arrest,” the police officer said. “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say or do may be used against you in a court of law…”
“I didn’t do anything. What’s going on? Ansley… Ansley… call my brother… what’s going—oh my gosh.”
Ansley glanced around in disbelief, her mind racing.
“Ansley, tell them… tell them it wasn’t me,” Simeon pleaded.
Everything was in slow motion at that moment. She saw the District Attorney holding Bree, attempting to calm her down. Lanae was staring at the scene before her in disbelief.
Ansley allowed the darkness to overtake her.
