While trying to think of a new way to fix hamburgers with the same old ground beef, I came up with this recipe. A good dose of Italian seasonings and mozzarella makes them unique. They’re great with a side salad or fresh green beans.

START TO FINISH: 20 MIN. • MAKES: 4 SERVINGS
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese, divided
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 pound ground beef
Marinara or spaghetti sauce, warmed
1. In a large bowl, combine 1/2 cup cheese, Worcestershire sauce and seasonings. Add beef; mix lightly but thoroughly. Shape into four 1/2-in.-thick patties.
2. Grill burgers, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 in. from heat 4-5 minutes on each side or until a thermometer reads 160°.
3. Sprinkle with remaining cheese; grill, covered, 1-2 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Serve with marinara sauce.
HOW TO
TEST THE GRILL TEMPERATURE
1 For a covered grill, keep the cover down and open the vent slightly. Insert a grill thermometer through the vent.
2 For an uncovered grill, cautiously hold the palm of your hand 3 to 4 inches above the grate. Count the number of seconds you can hold your hand there before the heat forces you to pull it away. At 2 seconds, the coals are hot, 450°. At 3 seconds, the coals are medium-hot, 400°. At 4 seconds, the coals are medium, 350°. At 5 seconds, the coals are medium-low, 300°.
