When you are feeling down or things are not going your way, you can easily make yourself smile by simply thinking of people, places or memories that make you smile. It has been scientifically proven that the mere physical smiling act makes a person happier.
You do not necessarily have to genuinely smiling; just flexing the muscles involved in smiling is enough to have the healing effect. The contraction of the specific muscles leads to an increase in the flow of blood to the frontal lobes in the brain triggering the release of a pleasure chemical known as the dopamine.
The next time you are having a stressful day just try and calm yourself down and then have a big smile –it has been proven to work miracles in lowering your heart rate thus bringing the stress down and leaving you happy.
