If you are starting a job in sales, you may be beginning a lifelong career – the first in a progression of jobs that will enable you to achieve your personal and financial goals. You owe it to yourself to find the most appropriate position that fits your personality, style and interests.

THE CHALLENGE AHEAD
If you adopt Golden Rule Selling (Solution 3) as your guiding sales philosophy, there are a few challenges ahead that you will need to overcome. You need to find the products or services that you can sell honestly and effectively, and an environment in which you are comfortable selling them.
The first step is to make a comprehensive list of the products and services that you would enjoy selling. Now ask yourself:
• In what environment would you prefer to sell them?
• Do you prefer selling face-to-face or over the telephone?
• Would you enjoy finding new customers or would selling to existing users be your ideal?
• Do you like to challenge yourself daily or would less-frequent challenges be more comfortable for you?
To know what you can sell best, you must first know more about yourself. Look to your training and your interests. Consider the jobs you’ve previously held, the products you’ve bought and enjoyed, the hobbies and pastimes that have given you pleasure. It is so much easier to sell things that you are passionate about.

You are a problem solver When you meet with a customer, your job is to help that person identify and solve a specific problem – do so by understanding the steps of problem solving as well as by guiding the buyer in making intelligent decisions.
You make dreams come true You have the opportunity on a daily basis to guide people in the realization of their dreams.
You can sleep well at night By selling to others as you would like to be sold to you can rest well at the end of each day.
