Chapter Eight

Concentration

Bill Wilson offered his community an important support as it gathered to address the problem of addiction. He taught that a 12-step program should have a “singleness of purpose.” People come to a 12-step program to work on their addiction. A concentrated focus allows for excellence in addressing the problem. The success a 12-step member experiences when putting down a substance or stopping negative behavior provides a steady foundation on which to stand while addressing the many other challenges on the path of recovery. In this chapter, we will discuss how a singleness of purpose can support an infinity of choices.
