CHAPTER NINETEEN
The Practice of Healing

The gift of healing is innate in us all, a birthright we can choose to utilize, if we so wish. Like all gifts of creative expression, some people have a larger innate talent than others and are therefore called more strongly to develop and explore their natural healing skills.

Once we begin to use our intuition to help others, we are already engaged on a path of healing. An intuitive reading, providing perspective, insight, and revelation to the person who receives it, is an experience of healing in itself and the transformation that follows shows us the healing power that words can have when they react in the world of matter. Truth, when spoken with the quality of compassion, creates an atmosphere of acceptance, and acceptance is the key to healing.

Intuitive readings give us information, insights, and clarification about ourselves, our problems, our path. Healings invite us to surrender, to accept, and to receive. In receiving a healing, we allow ourselves to receive love, energy, and light. We allow another to help us and we allow life energy to flow in us, bringing movement, fulfillment, and the sense of being cared for.

When we heal another, we act as intermediary between light and matter, heaven and Earth. Healing is a sacred work, a work of marrying light and matter and bringing these two opposite qualities into communion. We need to be open in our hearts—open to light, open to love, and open to ourselves, present and alert, aware and available. When we heal, we call the light and direct it with our consciousness to wherever we wish it to go, sending it with love to the person who is receiving.

There are several progressive steps involved in the process of healing and each step must be respected in order to master the art of healing others. The steps we follow are preparation, reception, transmission, and intention.

PREPARATION

We use the ritual of preparation to ensure we are well centered, grounded, and present before we begin a healing work on somebody else. Particular attention must be paid to the personal boundary and the vertical alignment, so that we are well connected to both Earth and light, balanced, present, and ready to give.

RECEPTION

We call the light from the universe to flow into us through the seventh chakra. It flows down into our heart chakra, where it mixes with the quality of compassion in the heart. From the chest, it flows down to the second chakra, into the belly. The light circulates in the lower belly and then rises, flowing back to the heart. From the heart chakra, the light energy flows to our arms and down through the arms to our hands. We receive the light into our hands as a flowing, liquid, healing heat.

TRANSMISSION

From our hands we transmit the healing light to our partner, either by placing our hands directly on the part of the body where healing is needed or by sending it a certain distance from the physical body. We transmit the light which has traveled through our body, to the body of the other, directing the passage of the light with our consciousness.

INTENTION

We use our will, our power, to “steer” the light to the zone of the body where it is needed, imagining that the other is receiving and integrating the light we are sending in the most appropriate way. We maintain concentration in this manner, until we feel that the light has reached its destination and has been absorbed and integrated into the energy system of the person to whom we are sending. While sending light, we maintain contact with our deep intention that this healing intervention be an intervention of love, given to create transformation and evolution in the other. We hold within ourselves the intention that the light we are transmitting be offered for the highest good of all the beings involved. With this intention we can be sure that we shall never unconsciously harm someone with whom we are working.

Intention is a quality which gives power to the healing intervention, causing the light to penetrate the density of matter, finding its correct destination with efficiency and precision.

When we heal from a position of vertical alignment, we are naturally centered in trust and certainty. It is our inner certainty of the justice of our healing strategy which gives us the clear intention we need to follow the healing through from beginning to end, creating a transformation in the person we are healing.

HEALING TREATMENTS

Channeling Light to the Heart

Ask your partner to lie down comfortably on his or her back, covered, if necessary, to create a feeling of warmth and security. You may wish to use a cushion under the knees and/or head. Ask your partner to simply relax, breathing in a rhythm that feels easy and natural.
