i think what drove jim as a photographer was a search for a life that he could connect with. . . . I saw him several times talking to people, and he would literally drop into their vernacular. It wasn’t his own voice. He would kind of drop into their accent or their style of talking to connect with them, and it worked for him. He then felt a part of them. Through that, he expanded his own life experience through his photographing of people.
