We made beautiful love before I went to pick up Luke from school. On the way home we stopped for ice cream to allow momma some more time to sleep without worrying about taking care of Luke. Luke was full of questions about the adoption which reminded me that I needed to call the family lawyers, I needed to get the paperwork going so that the adoption could get rolling.
By the time that Luke and I arrive home it’s almost four in the afternoon. He pulls out his folder and starts working on his homework like he does every day when he gets home, it only takes him a few minutest to do the work. I grab my phone and call the lawyers to see what I need to do to file for adoption of Luke. They inform me that they will fax me some paperwork to fill out and have Lilly sign to agree to the adoption. Then it’s wait until the court can process the paperwork and the judge can sign off on the adoption.
The lawyer informs me that the earliest I can expect to hear anything from the judge is April if the paperwork is filed by the end of today. That’s not going to happen, even though I have a personal office with a fax in another wing of the house. I’ve never taken Lilly into that area because it’s a private area, not a man cave, just where I do all my business dealings. Even by the time I get the fax and fill out the paperwork and fax it back, it will be past five which means the courthouse won’t get it until next week. Oh well I guess they’ll get the paperwork next week sometime.
I go into my office and wait for the fax. While I’m there I look over the reports from my oil rigs. One thing my grandpa taught me was that you have to take an interest in the oil rigs in order to make money. If you leave it up to someone else then they won’t care if the rigs are making money or not. I look over the reports weekly and make sure no corners are cut. I also make sure the equipment gets repaired quickly if it breaks or needs improved.
I’m sitting at my desk looking over paperwork when Luke wanders into the office he climbs up into my lap and asks, “Whatcha looking at?” His curiosity has gotten the better of him.
“Reports.” I answer dryly as I’m absorbed in the information that I am reading.
“Police reports?” He asks inquisitively.
I chuckle. “No Luke, my boy, I’m looking at oil rig output reports and budget reports.” I explain to him.
“Sounds boring. Why you looking at them?”
“Well Luke, my grandpa left me half of his oil rigs when he passed away. So, I am also a business man. I need to know what my rigs are doing if I’m going to have successful rigs to pass on to you and your brothers or sisters.” I answer him.
“How many babies are you and momma gonna have?” I tripped him up by making brother and sister plural.
“Well, only one right now. But, we may decide to have more in the future.” I explain why I had said brothers and sisters.
“Oh, okay.” He says as he slides off my lap. When he gets to the door he says, “Momma woke up and she said that you better come find her to discuss dinner.”
“Okay, tell momma I’m on my way.” I say as I lay down the papers I was looking at and grab up the papers from the fax machine.
Luke is already down the hall heading into the kitchen when I leave the office. I know I’m eventually going to have to let Lilly into the other rooms of the house, but I don’t want to overwhelm her. We have been living together as a real couple only for a few months and she wasn’t one hundred percent then so, I’ve been putting off showing her the rest of the house.
When I make it to the kitchen where Lilly is preparing some dinner. She’s got some pork chops and is breading them with flour and eggs. On the stove she has some frozen beans slow thawing for cooking. She also has a pot of water on with a bag of noodles to go in it once it comes to a boil. Damn this woman’s cooking is going to make me have to workout more to keep my figure.
“What do you have there?” Lilly asks me as I enter the kitchen and peruse the fixings.
“Adoption paperwork. I had the lawyers fax it over so we could start the process.” I inform her.
“You’ve got a fax? Where?” She asks me.
“Yes babe in my office.” I answer her. “I’ve been meaning to give you a full tour of the house, but you weren’t feeling good recently and I kept putting it off until you were.” I explain why I hadn’t shown her the rest of the house since we had become a couple.
“I tell you what, after dinner I’ll give you the full tour and you can pick the baby’s room and your office. Tomorrow we’ll start picking up office supplies to make your office all yours so you can have a private place to do your work. And in a few weeks we’ll start buying the supplies for the baby’s room, so not to overwhelm you.” I inform her.
“My own office, how many rooms does this place have?”
“Yes your own office. I was thinking Luke and the baby could share a wing of the house with one bathroom. Your office could be next to mine in the third wing.” I say as I gently kiss her on the back of her neck.
