Chapter 47

Since I finally got Lilly to agree to a wedding date I’ve been running around calling Chris and Kathy constantly to arrange the wedding of her dreams.  I’ve managed to reserve a nice catholic church for the wedding ceremony, the father is one of my friends and is willing to look past the fact that Lilly isn’t a member of the church.  Kathy is in charge of getting Lilly out of the house and also getting her a wedding dress on my account.  Chris is tasked with getting the guest invites out to the whole force, her parents, Lukes grandmother, and a few special guests that I wanted at the ceremony.

Kathy had told me that her favorite colors are peach and a light yellow.  I relayed that information to the florist, the church and the cake decorator.  Lilly knows nothing of the plans I’ve got for our wedding.

Today I’ve got to go and be fitted for my tux.  It’s a typical black and white, the vest, cummerbund and tie are going to be peach.  I chose to match the wedding decorations, I’m hoping she loves my tux as much as I do.  After my fitting with the tux I stop by the florist and the lady that is doing the wedding cake to see their set ups and give them the final approval.

By the time I get home Luke is curious as to where I’ve been all morning.  His questions don’t stop not even when I try to avoid answering them.  He just doesn’t give up.  One day he’s going to make a great detective.  I’m saved by the phone ringing.

It’s the family lawyers letting me know that we now have a court date for the adoption of Luke.  The court has set it up for the end of March.  That’s great because it coincides with Luke’s spring break.

Before I know it the two weeks before the wedding have passed by in a blip.  The weekend finally comes, I come into the house with Luke’s tuxedo that I had fitted to him last weekend it’s a black and white tux with a peach cummerbund, vest, and tie just like mine.  Kathy picked up Lilly last night and they had a girls night out.

I’m nervous as fuck.  Chris is by my side reassuring me that Lilly is going to say I do.  The church is done up beautifully in peach and light yellow.  My brothers and sisters in blue are represented throughout the church, since neither of us really have much of a family to appear for us.  I see Lilly’s mom in the front row on the bride’s side of the church, which means her father is in the entrance way waiting to walk Lilly down the asile to me.  Luke is the ring bearer and has been practicing all week the steps that he has to do for the ceremony, this part Lilly knew about and was excited that he was participating in the wedding.

We didn’t have a young girl to be the flower girl until little Luke suggested a ‘friend’ of his from his birthday party be the flower girl.  At first her mother was against her participating until she heard that Luke wanted her to be the flower girl.  Apparently the two of them talk about each other constantly.  I took her mom and her to the dress shop to pick out a dress that they liked for the wedding.  The only requirement I had for them was that the color either be peach or light yellow, she picked a cream yellow.

I hear the wedding march starting and my nerves are now really jumping.  I see the flower girl walking down the asile, she does an awesome job placing the flowers at appropriate spaces.  When she gets to the end of the asile her mom directs her where to sit.  Then it’s Luke’s turn to walk down the asile I can tell he’s nervous, but he does an awesome job.  When he reaches the end of the asile he remembers to stand beside me at the altar.  Now I hear the change in the tune of the wedding march, the doors open wide.  I see Lilly and her father walking down the asile.  She looks beautiful in her dress.

It’s not white, it’s a light yellow dress that compliments her alabaster skin.  She chose not to wear a veil, but the headdress that she wears is white adorned with yellow and peach flowers.  The dress isn’t flashy, and doesn’t go past her knees.  It’s flowing and fits her perfectly.  The baby bump is showing, but she’s not trying to flaunt it.

Her father is in a tux and gives her away on cue.  He is a proud man.  We’ve had a few conversations in the last few weeks about what I’m doing for his daughter and grandson.  When I informed him that I was adopting Luke so that he would be officially my son he knew that I didn’t want to back out of this marriage.  Luke hands us the rings on cue and we repeat the promises to each other, and I mean every word of the vows that I say.

We head to the reception party which is held in a party room of the church.  There is no alcoholic beverages served since Lilly is pregnant and the reception is taking place at a church.  It’s definitely fine by me, less alcohol means less accidents, and less people showing their ass at the reception after consuming quite a few beverages.  The caterer has set up a semi agreeable buffet, there are green beans, corn off the cob, sliced turkey, sliced ham, macaroni and cheese for the kids, rice, and noodles.  For dessert there are several cupcakes provided by the baker of the same type as the wedding cake.  Beverages are water, sweet tea, or sodas.

The middle area of the the party room has been left open and there is a dj with a stereo system playing soft loving music.  Luke takes the flower girl to the dance floor and attempts to dance with her.  It’s so cute to watch, as he tries to spin her around.  The photographer is making her way around the wedding and she snaps a few shots of Luke and the little girl on the dance floor.  When she walks over to us she informs us that Luke and the girl were attempting to kiss in one of the pictures that she captured.  What am I going to do with this boy.

It’s finally time for our first dance as Mr and Mrs. Sharp.  I can’t believe that she said ‘I do’.  The dj plays a lovely wedding song by a unheard of artist, but it fits us perfectly.  The moment I spotted Lilly in that bathtub I knew she was mine.  I had been watching her from afar for a while, but the night I had found her in need of help was the last time I was going to let her be alone.  We finish our dance and head out the door to the limo that is waiting for us.  I had prepared Luke for this part, he’s going home with Kathy and Chris for the weekend.

We head to the airport and catch our flight to Vegas.  This time we are going to finish what we started in Vegas.  Although this time she knows it’s coming since we both said ‘I do.’
