Total 1,279 (+38) heavy guns, mainly 3.7”, 4.5” and old 3”. In addition to the heavy guns there were approximately 700 light anti-aircraft guns (2 pounders, and Bofors 40 mm) and just under 3,000 light machine-guns and 20 mm Hispano, mostly disposed for the protection of airfields, factories and other vital points.
