Hungarian Braided White Bread

Ingredients (6 servings)
1 (¼ ounce) package active dry yeast
1 ¾ cups warm milk
1 egg yolk
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 teaspoons salt
5 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon poppy seeds
1 egg, beaten
Preparation
Whisk the yeast with warm milk in a bowl and leave it for 15 minutes. Beat the egg with sugar, salt, egg yolks in a bowl. Stir in flour and yeast mixture, then mix well until it makes smooth dough. Knead this dough for 8 minutes, and then divide the dough into two parts. Shape the dough into a cylindrical loaf and dive the loaf in half. Roll each half in a rope and pinch the four ropes at one end. Braid this rope and fasten them at another end. Place the dough on a baking sheet, cover, and leave for 40 minutes. Brush the bread with beaten egg and drizzle poppy seeds. Bake the bread for 15 minutes at 400 degrees F. Reduce the heat to 350 degrees F. Bake for another 45 minutes. Serve warm.
