“So you still refuse to tell me where you got this,” Mr. Sheldrake, the assistant principal, said, looking up from the exam booklet on his desk.
“It’s like I said, sir,” Tony insisted. “I found it in my backpack. I don’t know how it got there.”
“And you expect me to believe that?” Sheldrake retorted.
“Mr. Sheldrake,” Joe said, “Tony and I didn’t—”
Sheldrake cut him off. “Until we have decided how to handle this situation, you both are suspended. Is that clear?”
“But, sir—” Tony started to speak.
Sheldrake raised his voice. “This is stolen property, and it was found in your possession. Just be glad I’m not reporting the incident to the police!”
