Appendix D

Notes on Popular Wikis

This section provides brief overviews and notes on some of the more popular wiki platforms. Wikis included in this list are either mentioned in the main body of the book or were frequently mentioned by various users as I was researching information on wikis and wiki usage. It is not a comprehensive list of all available wiki platforms. To see a full list, visit Wiki Matrix http://www.wikimatrix.org.

I.1. Confluence

The Confluence wiki, from Atlassian software, is arguably the most widely deployed wiki platform in the enterprise market space. Confluence is designed specifically for enterprise use with unlimited wiki spaces, plus other features such as user networking tools, granular security, LDAP integration, and integrated search. Confluence ships with several functional level templates that enable quick setup and ease of use. It is also supported by an extensive library of third party plug-ins and integration with software development and publishing tools, which extend its capabilities. Confluence is available in either hosted or locally installed versions.
